I Think Larry David is Sexy
Problematic behavior or foreword thinking? Who cares...I'm not changing my mind!
If you haven’t watched all 12 seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm, I will not entertain your counterargument. If you have watched every season and still don’t see what I’m seeing…hear me out. Or don’t—but this is the hill I will die on regardless.
Unarguable point: Larry David has not aged in the last 25 years. Has he consistently looked like a man in his 60s or 70s? Yes. But how many men—especially in Hollywood—can say they’ve maintained the same appearance for that long? Exactly. It’s simple mathematics. Even if it doesn’t align with conventional beauty standards, I still think it counts.
Yes, Larry David is a semi-perma-balding older man. But he is so intensely self-aware of this. His humor disarms any initial hesitation you might have about his looks before you even have the chance to form an opinion. Who doesn’t love a straight man who’s effortlessly self-deprecating? I sure do. And the way he leans into it—without being pitiful—gives him an odd, undeniable charm. He owns his appearance with a “whatever” attitude, and honestly, that’s a win in my book.
Now, combine this selective confidence with a solid sense of style, and we’re really getting somewhere. Say what you will, but Larry David knows how to put together an outfit. This might just be my personal taste, but I love a skater-inspired look—as long as it’s combined with something else. And Larry? He does it right. His signature aesthetic blends skater elements with an unconventional business-casual undertone. Skater—toxic, ew. Business casual—yeah that’s a no. But when the two merge…that’s the sweet spot.
But the real kicker—the thing that makes him weirdly irresistible—is that you’re not supposed to be into him. He’s abrasive, awkward, and pushy. He embodies a bizarre lack of traditional masculinity, and somehow, that flips the entire dynamic on its head. He’s never framed as an object of desire (aside from maybe one shirtless scene I can think of), which makes him a rare exception in an industry that sexualizes even the most mundane male leads. Maybe that contrast—his complete absence from the “Sexy Hollywood Man” narrative—is what makes him unexpectedly magnetic.
So, if this take has swayed you even a little—welcome aboard, you little weirdo. And if not? Well, I can’t blame you. It’s a a tough-to-digest take.
